Property in Brazil

Recent years have seen an increasing interest in the market for property investment in Brazil. A new and emerging property market, Brazil offers investors a series of strong fundamentals including a buoyant economy, low property prices and growing market for tourism.

In 2007, over 9 million tourists visited Brazil, and with an increasing number of flights to the country, the increases in tourism revenue seem likely to continue for the foreseeable future.

At the heart of Brazil - South America’s largest country - is a free market and export-oriented economy that’s the world’s ninth largest. A vast labour force of around 100 million is split between the service sector at 65%, the industrial sector, representing 20%, and agriculture at 15%. Science and technology is an attractive target for foreign direct investment and a huge growth area, with an increase over the last ten years from US$2 billion to $US20 billion.

Behind this sustained growth is a strong and pro-foreign investment government led by President Lula, whose polices of continued inwards investment continue to reap long term rewards. Progressive social and economic government policies have pushed the majority of Brazilians into the a rapidly expanding middle class, which has been helped by the cost of living, currently running at just 20-30% of that of Western Europe.

Brazil is now seen as a great place to invest in property and investors are seeing fantastic returns. In particular, property in Natal, Bahia and Fortaleza has proven increasingly popular with overseas investors in the past twelve months. With investors in these coastal regions currently experiencing property price returns of approximately 20% per year, this trend is likely to increase considerably in the coming years.

At present, the prices of property in Brazil are still relatively low in comparison with other major South American markets. This, coupled with the impressive regional growth statistics have proven attractive to more speculative investors who have already moved into the new developments which are appearing throughout the coastal regions of Brazil.

There are a number of regions worthy of detailed consideration if you are thinking of buying a property in Brazil, and with over 7,000 kilometres of unspoilt beaches, Brazil offers a huge opportunity for developers and investors alike.
